Microneedling in Chicago is a great skincare treatment that can address multiple concerns. For example, it may reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. It can also assist with hyperpigmentation, enlarged pores, and more. But how can you make sure you get the best results from your microneedling? One major thing you can do is adhere to good microneedling aftercare practices. This blog post contains tips to help you care for your skin following your treatment.
Stay Hydrated and Keep Your Skin Clean
After your microneedling session, you must prioritize hydration and cleanliness.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to support your skin’s healing process and maintain a healthy, radiant complexion. Proper hydration helps your skin recover faster and may reduce the risk of irritation.
In addition, gently cleanse your face with a mild, non-abrasive cleanser that does not contain harsh chemicals or fragrances (for the first 24 hours, you may use only water to clean your skin). Pat your skin dry with a soft towel rather than rubbing, which can cause unnecessary irritation. Follow this routine morning and evening to promote optimal healing.
Avoid Makeup for 24 – 48 Hours
Your skin will be extra sensitive and vulnerable immediately after microneedling. Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 – 48 hours following your treatment. Makeup products may contain ingredients that could clog your pores or lead to infection while your skin is still healing. If you must use any products, stick to those recommended by your skincare professional, and choose formulas designed specifically for post-procedure care.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun
Exposure to sunlight can be particularly harmful in the days after microneedling; it could worsen hyperpigmentation and impede your body’s healing process. Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 every day, even if you plan to stay indoors. Reapply sunscreen every two hours when outside, especially if you sweat or towel off. In addition to sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat and seek shade whenever possible.
Do Not Use Physical or Chemical Exfoliants
Skip any products that exfoliate your skin for at least one week following your microneedling treatment. Both physical scrubs and chemical exfoliants, such as those containing alpha hydroxy acids or retinoids, can disrupt your skin’s recovery and cause irritation and inflammation. Focus on using gentle, hydrating products to support your skin’s natural renewal.
Avoid Sweating for a Few Days
For the first few days after microneedling, avoid activities that cause excessive sweating. Intense exercise, saunas, and hot showers can expose your skin to bacteria and increase the risk of infection. Sweat may also irritate freshly treated skin and slow down the healing process. Opt for low-impact activities or rest during this period to give your skin the best chance to recover. Once the initial healing phase passes, you may gradually return to your normal activities.
